Stake Conference is a special occasion to receive personal revelation and answers to prayer.  It can be a time of miracles and rescue.  Please invite non-member friends and less active members to attend Stake Conference with you.  Elder Falabella has asked each member to prepare the name of one ancestor for temple ordinances before the conference.  If you need help with this contact your ward Family History representatives or young members of your ward are also excellent resources of help.  Prepare yourself for Stake Conference and it will be a rewarding experience and well worth your time to attend and partake of the spirit of gathering with the members of our Stake.

Family History Open House - October 19th at Madison Junior High

The Rexburg FamilySearch Center is sponsoring a Family History Celebration—Open House on Saturday, October 19th, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  We are inviting all individuals and families to come by the Madison Junior High School (one block East of Smith Park) to take part in the activities.  The theme is “A Culture of Remembering.”  Visitors can browse through 100 table displays which show how we can remember our ancestors and could be remembered by our descendants.  We will have an exciting Children’s Activity Area and a motivating Teenager's Activity Area.  Vendors will be set up to show the newest and best products and services in Family History.  There will also be an Ancestors’ Recipe Tasting Table and a Video Room where short movie segments will be shown--miracle stories how hearts were turned to the fathers.  Everyone will have a wonderful experience.

We would like help with a few things in preparation for this event:

  • Table Display:  We invite individuals or families to volunteer a table display that shows how they have created a “culture of remembering” in their home.  It could be through a heritage of quilts, journals, life histories, a blog spot, picture books, heirlooms, or any other medium that show how they “remember their ancestors or want to be remembered by their descendants.”  If they would like to volunteer a table display, have them contact Rhonda Seamons at 496-4398, or seamonsr@byui.edu.
  • Ancestor’s Recipe:  We invite sisters to share an ancestor’s recipe and make a sample of this special food item for our Ancestors’ Recipe Tasting Table.  We would love to share the recipe on our web page and offer a sample of their ancestor’s treat at our both.  If they would like to volunteer a recipe and a sample, have them contact Carol Ladle at 403-7346 and send their recipe to: momladle@gmail.com.

June Visiting Teaching Message

June Visiting Teaching Message (Ensign, June 2013)
Joy in Family History

Elder Russell M. Nelson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles has taught that the Spirit of Elijah is “a manifestation of the Holy Ghost bearing witness of the divine nature of the family.”

As members of Christ’s restored Church, we have the covenant responsibility to search for our ancestors and provide for them the saving ordinances of the gospel. They without us cannot “be made perfect” (Hebrews 11:40), and “neither can we without our dead be made perfect” (D&C 128:15).

Family history work prepares us for the blessings of eternal life and helps us increase our faith and personal righteousness. Family history is a vital part of the mission of the Church and enables the work of salvation and exaltation for all.

President Boyd K. Packer, President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, said: “When we research our own lines we become interested in more than just names. ... Our interest turns our hearts to our fatherswe seek to find them and to know them and to serve them.”

The Prophet Joseph Smith taught, “The greatest responsibility in this world that God has laid upon us is to seek after our dead.” We can serve as proxy in the temple for our deceased ancestors and perform necessary ordinances for them.

Self Reliance - message from Tracy Hill (Relief Society Emergency Preparedness Coordinator)

"We become self-reliant through obtaining sufficient knowledge, education, and literacy; by managing money and resources wisely, being spiritually strong, preparing for emergencies and eventualities; and by having physical health and social and emotional well-being." (Julie B. Beck)

We cannot help others until we first help ourselves.  When we have done this, we should share our knowledge with others; this is where you sisters come in!  I would like to share YOUR KNOWLEDGE with the other sisters in the ward.  You are all the best resources I could ever find.

If you have ANY tip, advice, or knowledge of any kind related to self reliance, provident living, food storage, budgeting, good sales on food items to store, etc.  PLEASE share it with me and I will pass it along to the sisters on teh second Suday of each mont and also on this blog.  Please let me know if you do NOT want me to share your name, otherwise--I will.

I will be grateful for any feedback from you.  Please email me at tracyr27@hotmail.com with your ideas.  Thank you for sharing with your sisters.

Tracy Hill

Remember:  Store water in sturdy, leakproof, break resistant containers.  Keep from heat sources and direct sunlight

Relief Society Service Auction - January 17th

On January 17th we will be having a Relief Society Activity at the Church.  Babysitting will be provided.  We are going to be having a Service Auction.

Alright, we want to encourage every one of the Relief Society sisters to donate some type of "service" to the auction. It can be ANYTHING!!! Some examples are: babysitting, home-made goodies (like fudge or caramel popcorn or to-die-for cinnamon rolls), home-made quilt, hair cut, set of homemade cards, canned peaches, etc, etc.  Look below for more ideas. Anything that you might think someone else would benefit from or enjoy. Also, you are allowed (and encouraged) to donate more than one thing if you wish. Donating will earn you BIG points the night of the auction!! And, if you donate 3 things, then your points will be that much more, etc, etc, etc... Between now and the 17th the sisters get to earn points that they will use to bid on the donated items that night. Some things that they can earn points by doing are things like; having family home evening, doing service anonymously, doing your VISITING TEACHING, writing a missionary, going to the temple, etc, etc. Then, that night we will set up everything that's for "auction" and have some tally sheets for the sisters to tally all the points that they have earned. Then we will have an auction. Of course we will also have something yummy to nibble on.

The BYU-Idaho Pathway Program is helping to change the lives of students all over the world. One way this happens is by helping them to improve their English language skills. BYU-Idaho needs 1200 volunteers to become "speaking partners" this semester to help these students. Volunteers are paired with a Pathway student and spend about 30 minutes, twice a week in a Skype video chat; no second language skills are necessary. If you would like to help a Pathway student gain valuable English language skills, volunteer today at www.byui.edu/online/speaking-partners
